How easy is it for hackers to access your account?

What steps have you taken to ensure you don’t fall prey to scammers and hackers who are after your sensitive information and damaging your reputation? We’ve compiled some of the tips below to help you stay safe.

Strong Password

One of the most common ways hackers can access your account is by using your password. A weak password makes your account vulnerable to hackers since it can be easily guessed. What’s a secure password? It’s the one that contains a mix of letters (upper and lower case), digits, and some symbols placed randomly. It should be at least 8 characters where the longer it is, the harder it is for a hacker to guess it.

You should also consider changing your password on a regular basis where you can do this under the settings option of your account. As pro tip, consider using passwords that you’re not using elsewhere.

Add 2-Factor Authorisation

Log in to your Facebook account and on the top-right icon on your screen, go to settings and select ‘Security and login.’

Scroll down and find ‘Setting Up Extra Security’ section where you’ll find the option of using two-factor authentication. Turn it on to proceed with the next steps then click on the ‘Get Started’ button that appears. On the text message option of the authentication, pick your country code along with your phone number to activate the process. By clicking continue, you will now receive a code every time your account is logged in from an unknown device.  You can deactivate this option by turning it off anytime.

Set Up Alerts For Unrecognised Login

Prevent unauthorized access to your account by enabling login notifications to your phone number as a way of heightening the security of your account. To do this, go to the Setting menu and head over to the ‘Security and login’ option.

Scroll down to the ‘Setting Up Extra Security’ option where you’ll see the option to turn on alerts from unrecognized logins. This will give you the option of choosing how you’d like to get notified. It can be either through Facebook notification, messenger or email.
